Iredell ISD is announcing the adoption of a new Student Cell Phone & Device Policy, effective August 13, 2025, for the upcoming 2025-2026 school year. This new policy, in accordance with Texas House Bill 1481, aims to minimize distractions and enhance the learning environment for all students during the instructional day.
The updated policy emphasizes that students may not possess or use personal communication devices—including cell phones, tablets, and smartwatches—during the instructional day while on campus. This includes time spent in classrooms, hallways, and during lunch periods.
Key expectations for device use are as follows:
All devices must be powered off and stored securely in a backpack, locker, or vehicle.
Devices may not be carried on a student's person (e.g., in a pocket, worn on the body, or on a wrist) during instructional hours.
The policy outlines a clear offense and consequence structure to ensure consistent application:
1st Offense: Device confiscated; returned to student at the end of the school day.
2nd Offense: Parent/guardian must pick up the device after school ends.
3rd Offense: Parent/guardian pick-up required after school.
4th Offense: 3 days In-School Suspension (ISS); parent/guardian pick-up.
5th Offense: 5 days ISS; parent/guardian pick-up.
6th Offense: Student assigned to the District Alternative Education Program (DAEP).
Important Additional Notes:
Beginning with the second offense, the device will NOT be returned to the student. It will only be provided to a parent/guardian.
Exceptions may be made for medical or safety needs as documented in an IEP, 504 Plan, or approved by administration.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to review the full policy available on the Iredell ISD website. We appreciate the cooperation of our students and families in ensuring a successful and focused school year.
