Gracie Benitez, a member of Iredell ISD's fifth grade class, initiated the process of the school district adopting a 2 mile stretch of Highway 927. It was Earth day and she was wanting to do her part to improve the ecosystem. While she was brainstorming ideas, she remembered when her big sister helped the FFA pick up trash on Highway 6. Gracie wanted to pick up trash as well, but wanted to try another location. Mrs. Johnson, the fourth grade teacher, showed her Highway 927 just waiting to be adopted. So she took action and began the process of adopting a highway with the help of the school. Not much later they adopted Highway 927. Gracie and some her friends and family picked up the trash out on 927 and helped to clean up their ecosystem.
