Biography:

I have not always been a Texan but I got here as soon as I could.  J  I grew up in New Smyrna Beach, Florida where my two favorite activities were riding horses or going to the beach.  I have one older sister, Angie Phillips, who still lives in my hometown, as well as my parents, Ken and Wanda Phillips.

I met Don, (who is now my husband of 16 years) at the national high school rodeo finals in Pueblo, Colorado my sophomore year in high school.  My horse, Litening Kidd and I won the finals that year in barrel racing.  After getting married in Florida, Don and I moved to Texas to attend Tarleton State University on rodeo and academic scholarships.

Since graduating from Tarleton I have taught at Whitney Middle School and then here in Iredell.  We have two daughters, Ayla and Kyra, and a son, Trevin.  We also feel very proud and blessed to have an “adopted” daughter, Jill Knowles in our family.  There are also a couple of exchange students running around the world that we are grateful were a part of our family also - “Ingo” Hogseth, from Sweden, and Ilija Bojanic from Yugoslavia(yes, we miss you both terribly).

I love my life and look forward to what the future holds.  I enjoy teaching and the opportunity that it brings me.  I feel very privileged to get to watch my own kids grow and develop into kind, contributing, God fearing citizens as well as all of the students here in Iredell School.  I can’t wait to see where their futures will take them…..the sky is the limit for those who tackle their fears and work towards their dreams.
